The Calm - Group_color2

Four Guys Making Music, One Song At A Time:
Initially formed in the fall of 2010 as an original power trio fused from multiple genres, influences and perspectives. A collection of talented multi-instrumentalists swirls around the vocal stylings of singer/songwriter Dan Duntz, a Pittsburgh, PA-born, midwestern-raised musician. Alongside drummer John Summers the two embarked on finding the perfect complement to Grohl-esque drumming and catchy hooks, consisting of strange chord-al song structures, which are closer to jazz than straight-ahead rock.

After persevering down the winding road and frustrating, dark forests of revolving bass players, it wasn’t until the addition of Josh Turner in the fall of 2012 that the sound became more fluid, balanced and ‘right’.

The summer of 2014 saw the addition of Phil Nicoli, a long-time friend of Dan, on guitar. A talented soloist, his deft, blues-oriented phrases and textures fills out the rest of the sound to completion.
Sometimes smooth, often gritty and always forceful, each song is a contradiction within itself. Dark, moody lyrics mixed with pop melodies, strong, in-your-face bass lines weave around clean guitar hooks, and textured drums layered on top of smooth, minimalist tones. The desire by each member to weave their own sense of style, emotion and passion into each and every carefully crafted song is what drives this band forward.
